The place where I live
The place where I live is a small village ,called Blokker and is in the neighbourhood of Hoorn,The Netherlands.
Hoorn is well known as the V.O.C.(Verenigde Oostindische Company) city,from here the sailingboats discovered the world. The headquarters of the V.O.C. is still in good condition,build in 1532,the last year the building was renovated.

The city of Hoorn was born around 1300 on the mouth of a small river,later they call it "De Gouw".In 1357,Duke Willem the 5th give Hoorn the municipalrights. This document is still in the regioarchive and is the oldest document in their possession.
The name Hoorn is degenareted from the word "Horne" and that means bend or angle.
The people lives in wooden houses along the dyke and the roads which going inland.

The first time the city flag appear was in 1622 on a painting from Hendrik Cornelisz.Vroom

The oldest known image from the city-arms is dated 1361,four years after Duke Willem the 5th give Hoorn municipalrights.
The seal shows a cowhorn which is changed into a huntinghorn and brings the name Hoorn to expression.
